MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State Rep. John Nygren of Marinette says he’s planning to introduce four more bills to combat heroin use. The bills would require doctors to check a statewide database before prescribing opiates; require police who find prescriptions at the scene of an overdose to notify the doctor and enter it in the database; and create registries of pain management clinics and methadone clinics. Nygren’s daughter has struggled with a heroin addiction.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
