The kids are back to school, and the Fond du Lac Police Department is reminding motorists to slow down and pay attention to their surroundings while driving. Motorists are asked to pay extra attention around schools. Children are often excited with the start of a new a new school year and may not be paying close attention to traffic. Parents should take the time to familiarize themselves with school safety zones before dropping off or picking up their children at their schools. There is no parking, stopping or standing in these safety zones. Please obey the school crossing guards that are there to help students cross streets safely. A fine of $106.40 and 3 demerit points can be issued to motorists that fail to obey a crossing guard.
Motorists are also reminded that when approaching a school bus from either direction that is displaying flashing red lights and stop sign extended, the motorists must stop at least 20 feet away from the bus. Bus drivers do report these violations to the police and citations are issued. Citations for failure to stop for a school bus can range from $240 to $326.50 fine and 4 demerit points. Please follow these safety tips and help us in Making Fond du Lac a Safe Place to Live, Learn, Work and Play.
