9-16-15 police practices

todaySeptember 16, 2015

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican lawmakers have introduced legislation that would require police to develop policies for executing no-knock search warrants and track SWAT team call-outs.  Rep. Dean Knudson and Sen. Duey Stroebel announced Tuesday they’re looking for co-sponsors for the two bills. One would require every police department in the state to create a written policy on when to request and when to execute a no-knock search warrant. The other bill would require every department with a SWAT team to report each call-out and reason for deployment.  Knudson and Stroebel say in a news release that the bills would help people understand police better, document law enforcement actions and protect civil liberties.
