A former Waupun police lieutenant who went on a crime spree a couple years ago is going to prison. Brad Young was sentenced in Green Lake County Circuit Court to 15 years in prison and 15 years extended supervision. Young earlier had pleaded no contest to burglary in seven counties including Fond du Lac, Dodge and Green Lake. Waupun deputy police Chief Scott Louden says he is satisfied with the sentence. Louden says Waupun residents have supported the police department throughout this ordeal. Among the burglaries Young admitted to were three in Waupun. According to a criminal complaint Young told investigators he committed the crimes due to financial issues including gambling.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
