The North Fond du Lac Police and Fire Commission is meeting Monday afternoon to officially accept the resignation of the Fire Chief. Richard Zmuda submitted his resignation last week after he was arrested on theft charges out of the state of Pennsylvania. Zmuda is accused of stealing more than $47,000 from an elderly aunt. He waived extradition during a Fond du Lac court appearance this week. The village police and fire commission is expected to formally accept Zmuda’s resignation and discuss what to do with the position. Zmuda had been on the job less than a month.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
