Area school superintendents say a proposal to make the state superintendent an appointed position rather than an elected office would be a mistake. Rosendale Brandon school district administrator Gary Hansen says making the position a partisan appointment would have a negative impact on education in Wisconsin. “He’s a Republican representative from New Berlin and my first reaction would be I wonder if this proposal would be coming in front of anyone or if he would be making this proposal if we had a Democratic governor and a Democratic Senate,” Hansen said. North Fond du Lac School superintendent Aaron Sadoff questions the motives of Republican state representative Joe SanFelippo. “This is somebody who has a very vested interest in privatization of education, trying to get some things riled up,” Sadoff told WFDL news. Sadoff says he doubts the proposal will go anywhere.
