MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Patrick Crooks died Monday in his chambers in the state Capitol. Crooks announced last week that he planned to retire when his term ended in July. Governor Scott has the power to appoint someone to fill Crooks’ seat before then. His spokeswoman says he’ll decide what to do at a more appropriate time.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
