Republican congressman Glenn Grothman is calling on House Republican leadership to tie social security disability insurance reform to any increase in the nation’s borrowing limit. Grothman says for far too long, the debt ceiling has been increased without significant spending reforms. Grothman says more than four million beneficiaries have been added to the SSDI rolls since 2001 and the SSDI Trust Fund is projected to run out of money next year. Grothman says a lack of sustained oversight of the program has led to too many fraudulent claims. He says in 2013 the program wasted over $1 billion sending the wrong payments to 36,000 people. Grothman made the comments on AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
