With a trial still several months out Fond du lac County Sheriff’s detectives are continuing to gather evidence against a Kenosha man in the 1990 cold case murder of Berit Beck. Authorities issued a search warrant for Dennis Brantner’s socks. Investigators want a DNA analysis and to compare the knot in the socks to that on a blindfold that was found tied around Berit Beck’s skull when her body was discovered. Beck disappeared from the Forest Mall parking lot in Fond du Lac in July 1990. Her body was found about a month later in a roadside ditch near Waupun. A month long trial for Brantner is scheduled to begin in June.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
