10-19-15 berit beck murder suspect bound over for trial on drug charges

A Kenosha truck driver charged in the cold case slaying of a Sturdevant  teenager has been bound over for trial on drug charges in Fond du lac County.   Probable cause was found at a preliminary hearing Thursday for Dennis Brantner on  five felony bail jumping counts, three counts of possession of narcotics and two misdemeanor drug possession counts.  The charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. 10-19-15 tomah va medical center gets new interim director

OMAH, Wis. (AP) — The troubled Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center has a new interim director. Victoria Brahm began work October 5th and is expected to serve through Jan. 31 when a permanent director is expected to be in place. 10-19-15 fdl humane society haunted house

The Fond du Lac Humane Society’s Haunted House is open to the public.  Animal Shelter manager Renee Webb says the haunted house is located adjacent to the shelter on Triangle Drive in Fond du Lac and is open Friday and Saturday nights this month leading up to Halloween.  Webb says the cost is ten dollars and all of the proceeds go to the Humane Society’s capital campaign. 10-16-15 11 fire departments battle ripon house fire

Nobody was injured in a fire that caused extensive damage to a Ripon home.  Firefighters from 11 departments including the city of Fond du lac were called to the scene at 551 Metomen St.  Thursday.   The cause appears to be accidental…an oily rag left next to the stove.  The occupant apparently had the oven on self-clean mode and left the house before the fire started.

10-16-15 ripon man convicted of hiding brother’s body

A Ripon man accused of hiding his brother's body has been convicted.  At a hearing Thursday Robert Diamentis entered a plea to an amended charge of negligiently subjecting an individual at risk to abuse causing death.   Other charges were dismissed and read into the record.   Investigators say Diamentis placed the body of his 45 year old brother in a barrell at a residence on Olden Road after his brother died […]

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The head of Wisconsin's nonpartisan elections board is defending the agency from Republicans who want to do away with it. Government Accountability Board director Kevin Kennedy testified Thursday before the Legislature's Audit Committee. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Governor Scott Walker's administration says Wisconsin finished the last fiscal year with a $135 million surplus.  The Department of Administration released report on Thursday that found the state finished the fiscal year that ended June 30 with a balance of $135.6 million in its general fund, which includes taxes, gaming compact revenue and other revenue generated by state agencies.  The report noted the state brought in […]
