The public gets a chance to comment on a proposed Fond du Lac County budget. A public hearing will be held Tuesday evening in the legislative chambers of the Fond du Lac government center. County executive Al Buechel says the tax rate is down a penny from his orginal budget due to savings in health insurance and because the county will not be able to move forward at this time with a mental health mobile crisis program. Buechel says the county was not awarded grant money for the program. “We can’t afford all of the money out of our pocket…in excess of $250,000,” Buechel told WFDL news. Buechel says the budget reflects a lot of pressure the county is realizing in providing mental health services.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
