Democratic congresswoman Gwen Moore says newly elected House speaker Paul Ryan is a man of integrity. Moore considers Ryan a friend even though the two don’t see eye to eye politically on most issues. “I think the benefit of my relationship has been that if you can get an agreement out of Paul Ryan he will keep his word,” Moore told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. “He has integrity and I’m relying on that to get us to a place where he doesn’t compromise his principles, but compromise on things that he believes will move the country forward.” Moore says she tried to convince Ryan not to pursue the speaker’s post. Moore says she is concerned that the conservative faction in his party may eventually turn on him.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
