A Fond du Lac man involved in a 2012 crash that killed a passenger has been charged. Thirty seven year old Richard Hartung is charged with homicide by negligient operation of a motor vehicle. He is free on a $10,000 signature bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 18th. Investigators say Hartung was the driver of a pick-up truck that slammed into a tree on Highway 175 north of Church Road July 20th 2012. A passenger in the truck was killed and Hartung received non-life threatening injuries. The state patrol says Hartung was northbound when he attempted to pass in a no passing zone when he observed an approaching southbound vehicle. Hartung veered off the road and struck a tree.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
