The Dodge County Sheriff says an inmate who attacked a correctional Officer at the Waupun prison last Friday has been transferred to another correctional institution. WFDL news was first to report Saturday that the officer was severely beaten by an inmate. The incident was reported Friday afternoon during second shift. Sources told WFDL news the female officer was dragged into a secluded area and physically assaulted. She was transported to the hospital, with non life-threatening injuries. Sheriff Dale Schmidt issued a press release Tuesday confirming the attack. He says the sheriff’s office is conducting the investigation. The inmate was working as a swamper, that’s an inmate who is able to move throughout the institution for duties such as cleaning and maintenance.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
