A Fond du Lac police captain is in the running to be the new Oshkosh police chief. Fond du Lac police captain Aaron Goldstein is one of five finalists for the post. Goldstein has worked in law enforcement for more than 17 years. The other finalists are Milwaukee assistant chief, Kurt Leibold, Milwaukee police captain, Aaron Raap, Suffolk, Virginia deputy chief Dean Smith and Onalaska police chief Jeffrey Trotnic. A public “meet and greet” event will be held Nov. 16 at the Oshkosh Convention Center. Candidate interviews are planned for November 17th.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
