Fond du Lac police say reports of an armed man possibly on the Marian University campus Thursday morning are untrue. Assistant police chief Steve Klein says police were investigating a report of a suspicious person outside the English Meadows apartments near the university but were unable to locate anyone. Klein says a bit of a panic was created when Marian officials sent a text alert warning that police were looking for an armed man. “My understanding is that Marian University did send out some information via text alert to their students which did cause a panic,” Klein told WFDL news. “There was no credible threat or any reason why anybody needs to take any precautions in that area.” Klein says the text alert caused an unnecessary panic on the campus and says police will be meeting with Marian to try to address these situations better in the future.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
