The Fond du Lac city council has adopted a 2016 budget at their meeting Wednesday night. Fond du Lac city manager Joe Moore says the budget significantly reduces the city’s debt and operating expenses are nearly flat. The budget includes a 2.5 percent increase in the tax rate with a 4.6 percent levy increase. Moore says budget highlights include a new position in the police department to sift through electronic evidence that is gathered during a criminal investigation. The budget earmarks $100,000 for a grant program designed to restore residential apartments back to single family homes. The budget also includes $20,000 for a Lakeside Park master plan…and a major expenditure of a half million dollars to complete a city-wide bike and hiking trail through Lakeside Park.
