The Fond du Lac city council has voted against a staff recommendation to abolish the ethics board. City staff made the recommendation noting the board rarely meet, that the city would still have an ethics code and access to legal and ethical advice from the city attorney. The council voted unanimously against the recommendation at their meeting Wednesday night. Councilmember, Brian Kolstad, says the ethics board is independent and shows the city is transparent. Kolstad says eliminating the board would send the wrong message to the community. The council did vote to do away with the Equal Opportunities Commission. City Attorney Deb Hoffman says the city will continue to prohibit housing discrimination through the ordinance and enforce the discrimination law.
