The Polk County District attorney has been arrested for drunken driving in Fond du lac County. Forty five year old Daniel Steffen was arrested Monday night. A Sheriff’s deputy pulled the vehicle over for speeding on Highway 23 near Highway G east of Fond du lac. Steffen was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving and transported to the Fond du Lac County Jail where a preliminary breath test measured .11 percent. A sheriff’s report says Steffen was driving a county vehicle enroute to a statewide conference for district attorneys in Sheboygan.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
