Saturday, November 21, the young and the young at heart have a special mission: gather ’round Santa, sleeping soundly in Forest Mall’s Center Court armed with noisemakers, waiting for the cue from Sunny 97-7 Nick Rusch to cause the clamor that brings Santa out of his deep slumber. Once awake, Santa will lead a parade and then greet children. This year, The Salvation Army celebrates 125 years in Fond du Lac and brings it’s Red Kettle, Bell Ringing tradition to the event. Guests are asked to bring “pots, pans, bells and cans.” The pots and pans are the traditional noisemakers; the bells will join The Salvation Army Red Kettle and the bell ringers gathered alongside during the event, ringing in the season of giving and sharing. The cans will ” Fill the Sleigh” in center court and then help feed families in need. The sleigh will welcome non perishable conned goods, peanut butter, jelly until Dec. 31. Additionally, the Angel Tree returns to the Mall, offering opportunity to purchase gifts for those in need. “The event combines traditions and magnifies the giving spirit that changes hearts and lives. We are happy to be part of it,” Salvation Army Captain Steve Wilson comments. The Mall, 835 W. Johnson Street, opens its doors at 8 am; the event begins at 9 am. For information call 922.5863.
