The large Salvation Army Red Kettles, synonymous with the season of giving, have made their first Fond du Lac appearances. Five of this year’s locations started their season Friday at Shopko, Festival Foods, Piggly Wiggly and both Pick N Save locations. This is the 125th Red Kettle season for the Fond du Lac Salvation Army. All the kettles will be out November 27 and remain until December 24. In 2014 the Salvation Army provided 700 tons of food through the food pantry, 13,700 free summer Brown Bag Lunches, Christmas toys and Gifts for 2,481 children and adults, 900 Thanksgiving turkeys and 700 Christmas family dinners.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
