A number of Fond du Lac area residents may have been startled Wednesday night to see a low-flying helicopter. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says it was a military helicopter, apparently from West Bend, that made a pass over a portion of the city of Fond du Lac about 7:30pm Wednesday before flying west. The law enforcement dispatch center reports receiving a number of calls from residents who saw and heard the helicopter. One witness told WFDL news at one point it appeared the helicopter was hovering only a couple hundred feet off the ground.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
