Nobody was injured in a fire that destroyed a mobile home near Waupun. Waupun firefighters were called to the scene at N3419 West Center Road for a report of a mobile home filling with smoke. Upon arrival, smoke was visible from the roof with fire in a hallway and back storage room. The fire was quickly extinguished and a pet turtle was rescued from the home . The occupant was not home at the time. The home sustained significant smoke and fire damage, making it uninhabitable. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious. The Red Cross is currently assisting with some short-term needs. The Waupun Fire Department was assisted by the Alto Fire Department, Brandon/Fairwater Fire Department, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, Alliant Energy and the Red Cross. Initial damage estimates are $75,000-$85,000.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
