Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue is partnering with Fond du Lac Firefighters Local 400 in offering Child Identification Kits to all students, K-12. The kits are available for all students throughout Fond du Lac County including all homeschooled children. The kits are for you to keep and no other person or agency will have access to your child’s personal information. We ask that you complete the kits as soon as you receive them and keep the information in a safe and secure location in your home. This National Child Identification Program is a community service project that was developed to help law enforcement find the more than 800,000 children who disappear each year in the United States. Through the partnerships with this program, Wisconsin has the opportunity to become a leading state in the protection of children.
In America each year:
- 450,000 children run away
- 300,000 children are abducted by family members
- More than 58,000 children are abducted by non-family members
That’s more than 800,000 in America missing each year – one every 40 seconds.
All Fond du Lac County homeschooled family will be provided a Kit for every K-12 student. We are grateful to the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation for providing the funds for this project—the Fond du Lac Firefighters, the Green Bay Packers, the American Football Coaches Association’s National Child ID Program and the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin. All have contributed in some way to make this happen. The fingerprint/DNA kit includes an inkless fingerprint card, a DNA collection swab and cut-out wallet card. It allows parents and guardians an easy and non-intrusive means of collecting their child’s identification information (fingerprints, DNA, physical characteristics and a most recent picture). The information gathered is to be kept at home in a safe location. In the event of an emergency, the Child ID Kit would be turned over to local authorities to provide vital information to assist in locating a missing child. Parents who have children that are homeschooled will have access to the kits at Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, 815 S. Main Street during normal business hours. If you have any questions regarding Child ID Kits, please feel free to call us at 920-322-3800 or email us at fire@fdl.wi.gov.
