Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue is urging residents to take the necessary precautions to make sure this is a safe holiday season. Division Chief of Fire Prevention, Troy Haase, says the biggest concern is candles. Haase says the popularity of LED lights has made Christmas tree lights more safe…but he says electrical fires are also a concern during the holidays. Haase adds with colder weather, residents need to make sure fireplaces and other wood burning appliances are also in good working order.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
