MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A University of Wisconsin System regents committee has approved a resolution affirming the system’s commitment to free speech. The regents’ education committee voted unanimously to adopt the resolution Thursday afternoon during a meeting on the UW-Madison campus. Approval would send the resolution on to the full board of regents for consideration on Friday.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
