There are at least four contested races for Fond du Lac County Board in next spring’s election. Michael Gannon is challenging Sarah Everson in District 5, John Venhuizen, Ed Smith and Sam Kaufman are running for the district 7 seat where incumbent supervisor Richard Wetzel is not running for re-election, John Meyst is challenging Dean Will in District 21 and Brian Kolstad and Cary McQuitty are running for the District 22 seat. Incumbent Ted Eischeid has filed a declaration of non candidacy. In District 8 incumbent Thomas Schumacher has moved out of the district. Town of Byron chair, Bob Simon has taken out papers for the seat. Meanwhile, county clerk Lisa Freiberg says she is excited to implement the county’s new voting system starting with the February primary election. Freiberg says Fond du Lac is one of only a handful of counties to have the new equipment on board.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
