MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A judge has reinstated a former agent’s whistleblower case against the state Justice Department. Dan Bethards sent an email in 2012 to DOJ Criminal Investigation Division Administrator Dave Matthews and DOJ Human Resources Director Mary Casey alleging his supervisor, Jay Smith, was selling guns without a federal license. A federal investigation resulted in no charges and Bethards was fired.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
