A Republican state representative from Oshkosh says he wants to explore whether a former juvenile prison at Wales could be used to house violent sex offenders who are being released from the Sand Ridge Treatment Center. State representative Michael Schraa is floating the idea following a proposal that would have housed a violent sex offender from Milwaukee in a Fond du Lac County residence. The state has withdrawn that plan following public pressure. Schraa no matter where they are housed most of these offenders are still under strict guidelines. Schraa says placing violent sex offenders at the Wales facility may be in the best interests of the public and the offender when they are released from the treatment center. “…to see whether its feasible, economical and whether its constitutional to have these individuals placed there after their release from Sand Ridge,” Schraa told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
