The state Senate Democratic leader says the open 18th Senate District race will be the top priority for Democrats in next fall’s election. The seat is open after Republican state senator Rick Gudex of Fond du Lac announced last week he will not run for a second term. Senate minority leader Jennifer Schilling says she expects the race will be highly competitive on both sides. “The 18th senate district is our number one priority,” Schilling told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. “Senator Jessica King lost that seat by about 600 votes in a very closely contested election four years ago so that was going to be one that was on our radar.” Schilling who served with Gudex as legislative representatives on the WEDC board says she wishes Gudex the best in the future.
