A toy drone, apparently received as a Christmas present caused a security breach at the Waupun prison. Waupun police chief Dale Heeringa says a 32 year old Waupun man called police to report he lost his drone a block to the north of the Waupun Correctional Institution and that it might have gone into the prison over the walls. After a search of the property the drone was found inside the prison walls. Heeringa says through investigations that took place there is nothing at this point that shows criminal activity. Heeringa says it appears the man lost control of the drone and it landed in prison property on the other side of the wall. Heeringa says the drone was properly registered with FCC, and no charges will be filed. The chief says law enforcement is monitoring the situation to see if there is a need for an ordinance to control this activity for the safety of the community.
