Fond du lac County officials are concerned that further delays may jeopardize the planned opening of a new UW Fond du Lac student housing project next fall. County executive Al Buechel says the developer, Kaukauna based Keller Inc. , is still looking for someone to own and maintain the facility before coming back to the county with a final development proposal. Buechel says he’s very disappointed with the lack of progress on the project. He says construction would have to start by early spring in order to have the facility in operation in time for the start of the fall semester. Excel Engineering has already been selected as the engineering firm and BMOC, Best Management Onward Campus, of Madison would run the facility. The 84 bed facility would be located on the UW Fond du Lac campus adjacent to the physical education building.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
