A 36-year-old Waupun woman is accused of stealing nearly $27,000 from her mother-in-law. Nicole Grauvogl of Waupun is charged with five felony counts of misappropriate ID info to obtain money. She faces up to 30 years in prison and $50,000 in fines if convicted of all charges. A criminal complaint says officers responded June 27 to a fraud complaint from a woman who had noticed unusual activity in her checking account. Officers determined a suspect had withdrawn about $26,800 from the woman’s checking account in more than 100 transactions. The woman identified Grauvogl, her daughter-in-law, as the suspect shown on security footage. She’s scheduled to make her initial court appearance Jan. 11.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
