A Kenosha man charged in a cold case murder in Fond du Lac County goes on trial this week on drug charges after a judge denied his motion to postpone the trial. Dennis Brantner is charged with bail jumping and drug possession after the drugs were found hidden in his boot when he was booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail last spring. At a hearing Monday judge Peter Grimm denied a motion by Brantner’s attorney to adjourn the trial while he appeals the judge’s finding of probable cause at the preliminary hearing. Last month Judge Grimm also denied a motion to dismiss the charges. A trial is scheduled to begin Wednesday. The charges carry a maximum sentence of more than 20 years in prison. Meanwhile Brantner is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a million dollars cash bail on charges of first degree murder. He was charged in the 1990 murder of Berit Beck after his fingerprints were found in Beck’s van. She disappeared after stopping at the Fond du Lac Forest Mall while enroute to a work seminar in Appleton. Her body was found about a month later in a roadside ditch near Waupun.
