Former UW Fond du Lac Dean John Short has landed a job on the east coast. Short has been hired as the new president of the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Short will start his new job April 1. His salary will be $170,000. Short had applied but was not selected for the new UW Colleges northeastern regional dean position. A new administrative model groups the UW colleges into four regions.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
