AAA Wisconsin is issuing a safety alert for motorists with the extreme cold again blanketing the Badger state. Spokesman Nick Jarmuscz says AAA gets a lot of calls for dead batteries when it gets this cold. Jarmuscz says if you don’t have a garage, placing a tarp over the hood may help your car start in the morning. Jarmuscz says priority service will be given to members who are stranded or in a dangerous situation. He says these conditions are also another reason to have an emergency kit in your car.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
