Students at Fond du lac High School had to spend a few minutes outdoors in the bitter cold, many without a jacket, after the fire alarm sounded Monday. The temperature was in the low single digits with windchills of -20 to -25 when the alarm sounded at 12:07pm. School District health and safety program coordinator Marian Sheridan says a student apparently pulled a fire alarm as a prank. Sheridan estimates the students were outside for no more than about five minutes before they were able to go back inside.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
