With the Iowa caucuses just a few weeks away political observers point out that winning the contest is not necessarily the key to winning the party’s nomination for president. Fresh off the final Republican debate before the Iowa caucus, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are on top of the polls in Iowa. But Ripon College political science professor Marty Farrell says Republicans Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee won Iowa before fading. George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan lost in Iowa. Farrell says for candidates like Chris Christie and Jeb Bush, its important that they finish in the top four or five in Iowa.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
