The Sun Prairie Business Improvement district is seeking a replacement for Jimmy the Groundhog for this year’s ceremony. Ti Gauger says Jimmy is no longer around after he infamously bit the ear of the mayor during last year’s Groundhog Day ceremony. “We thought it would be fun to do an understudy contest,” Gauger told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. “We’re looking for the best Sun Prairie pet, child, adult who wants to be an emergency stand-in for Jimmy the Groundhog.” Gauger says the first choice is to find a real groundhog. She says Jimmy had correctly predicted the remainder of winter about 80-percent of the time for nearly seven decades. The 2016 Groundhog Day ceremony is February 2 in Cannery Square in Sun Prairie.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
