A Milwaukee teenager involved in a chase that ended in a crash on busy East Johnson Street in Fond du Lac last summer is scheduled to go on trial next month. A jury trial is scheduled for February 17th for 16 year old Matthew Hinkle. Hinkle is charged as an adult with fleeing an officer and hit and run. Police say Hinkle was involved in a car jacking in Milwaukee, drove the stolen car to Fond du Lac, rammed into a squad car at the North Park Avenue Kwik Trip store and fled. The chase continued eastbound on Highway 23 with speeds of up to 120 miles an hour. Hinkle turned around and headed back into Fond du Lac where he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. He fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
