A state lawmaker wants to make the Wisconsin high school athletic association more open and transparent. Representative John Nygren is introducing a bill that would subject the WIAA to the open records and meetings laws. Nygren told WFDL news he decided to reintroduce the bill after the WIAA drew ridicule for instructing schools to step in if fans boo or jeer rivals at basketball games. Nygren says the speaker and majority leader have told him they support the concept of his proposal. He says the only challenge is getting a vote before the session ends next month.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
