Nobody was injured when a house plant caught on fire. Fond du Lac firefighters were called to the 8th Street home Friday morning to a report of smoke in the house. Fire chief Pete O’Leary says investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started. “There was some plastic burning, so I don’t know if it was the plant itself or the pot it was in,” O’Leary told WFDL news. “There was a potted plant that got fire, we were able to get it out and ventilated the house.” O’Leary says the cause of the fire is still undetermined.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
