1-29-16 heating unit apparently caused fdl garage fire

Fond du Lac fire investigators believe a portable heater may have started a fire that damaged a garage this week.  Firefighters were called to the scene at 440 Portage Street Tuesday afternoon.  Fire chief Pete O’Leary says it appears the fire started near a portable heating unit in the garage.  Nobody was injured in the fire.

1-29-16 survey finds high radon levels in fdl county

A survey through the  UW-Fond du Lac Extension Office shows that eleven municipalities in Fond du lac County have average radon levels that exceed the EPA’s safety limit.  Extension agent, Diana Tscheschlok, says the EPA limit is four pico Curies per liter.  The city of Fond du Lac has an average rating of 2.3 pico Curies, but other area municipalities are significantly higher.  Ripon and Eden came in at 7.0, nine in Brandon, 16 […]

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Assembly Republicans are pushing Gov. Scott Walker's college affordability proposals toward a floor vote.  The Assembly's universities committee approved all six bills on party-line votes, with all the Democrats on the panel voting against every measure. 1-29-16 court says state allowed to withhold lottery winnings

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — An appeals court says the state legally withheld a portion of a man's $9.7 million Megabucks prize to cover his back taxes.  Donald Bottolfson won the money in 1994. He set up a trust to receive annual prize payments. He then sold the prize money from the trust to Great-West Life and Annuity Insurance Company. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Most Wisconsin residents wouldn't be able to possess dangerous exotic animals like tigers and gorillas under a bill a Senate committee passed Wednesday.  The bill prohibits people from possessing, breeding and selling big cats, nonnative bears and apes. 1-28-16 nance case going to jury

The case of a Fond du Lac  woman accused of killing her husband is going to the jury.   Eve Nance  is charged with first degree intentional homicide in the shooting death of her husband Timothy Nance at their Fond du Lac home and disposing of his body in Milwaukee.  The trial started last week and the defense rested its case Thursday morning.  Closing arguments were held Thursday afternoon.  The jury will begin deliberations at 8am Friday.  The […]

1-28-16 two children killed in sheboygan falls fire

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. (AP) — Police have released the names of two children who died in a house fire in eastern Wisconsin. Sheboygan Falls Public Safety Director Steven Riffel identifies the children who died as 7-year-old Carter Maki and 11-year-old Natalie Martin.
