MILWAUKEE (AP) — Some Wisconsin utilities predict customers could see their lowest heating bills in years, thanks to low natural gas prices and a mild winter. Customers of Milwaukee-based We Energies can expect savings of around 25 percent compared with last winter. That translates into a savings of $150 for the heating season. The latest forecast is an update from We Energies’ initial estimate in October. Wisconsin’s largest utility reports that in November and December alone, a typical customer saved about $85 on heating costs. Alliant Energy Corporation’s Wisconsin Power and Light utility also reports a big drop in utility bills. Natural gas prices have remained low this winter. And temperatures in Wisconsin have been near to above normal so far this season.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
