2-10-15 trooper’s return

todayFebruary 10, 2016

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper who suffered severe injuries and the loss of part of his right leg two years ago is back on the job after a grueling recovery.  Trooper Justin Hansen says it has been a long and difficult journey to get back to work. Hansen was responding to a crash on Highway 41 in Winnebago County in January 2014 when he was struck by a car and pinned between that vehicle and his squad car. Two Winnebago County deputies and a bystander applied tourniquets to his leg that officials say saved the trooper’s life.   Hansen says the hardest part of his recovery was learning how to walk on a prosthetic limb while his other leg was broken. The trooper says he was motivated by his desire to show his children about overcoming adversity and challenges.
