MILWAUKEE (AP) — The University of Wisconsin System-Extension plans to eliminate about 80 positions as part of a reorganization plan drafted to absorb a budget hit. Chancellor Cathy Sandeen said Wednesday that the job reductions will come from a branch that works with people at a local level on agricultural, parenting and economic development issues through offices in each of the state’s 72 counties.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
