The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is warning sturgeon spearers that the recent high winds and above normal temperatures may have compromised ice quality on areas of Lake Winnebago. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Bill Tadych says people venturing out onto the lake should check first to make sure. “I would recommend if you’re going to venture out there either contact someone who is very knowledgeable such as a fishing club, or some of the local taverns to check the local ice conditions,” Tadych told WFDL news.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
