EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind has a Democratic primary challenger. Retired history teacher Myron Buchholz, of Eau Claire, has announced his campaign for the 3rd Congressional District of western Wisconsin. Buchholz serves on the board of the Chippewa valley Chapter of American Civil Liberties Union. He says he answering the “call” from presidential candidate Bernie Sanders who has urged “average Americans to step up and take our government back from the billionaire class.” The congressional primary election is Aug. 9.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
