2-11-16 fdl county board supervisor dies

A Fond du Lac County Board supervisor who was not seeking re-election this spring has died.   Supervisor Tom Schumacher died Tuesday at his home near Campbellsport  following an illness.   He was 70.  Board chairman Marty Farrell made  the announcement prior to this week’s county board meeting.  Schumacher served only one term on the board and could not run for another term because he had moved out of the district.

2-11-16 fdl duplex kitchen fire

Nobody was injured in a fire that was contained to the kitchen of a home in Fond du lac.  Firefighters were called to a duplex at 1149 Primrose Lane this morning.    Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says there was smoke visible when he got on the scene.  He says the fire started when hot oil on the stove ignited.

2-11-16 downtown fdl vision team

The city of Fond du Lac will be accepting applications from people interested in serving on a committee to outline a vision for the future of Fond du Lac’s downtown.  The city council approved formation of the downtown vision team at  a meeting last month and discussed the formation of the committee at their meeting Wednesday night.  City manager Joe Moore says he hopes the city council can approve committee appointments in about a month.  Moore […]

2-11-16 uw extension layoffs

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The University of Wisconsin System-Extension plans to eliminate about 80 positions as part of a reorganization plan drafted to absorb a budget hit. Chancellor Cathy Sandeen said Wednesday that the job reductions will come from a branch that works with people at a local level on agricultural, parenting and economic development issues through offices in each of the state's 72 counties.

2-11-16 overdue library fines

2-11-16 assembly approves sex offender restrictions bill

The state Assembly has approved a bill creating uniform restrictions on where violent sex offenders can live.  The bill’s author, state Representative Mark Born of Beaver Dam, says the measure would bar violent sex offenders from living within 1,500 feet of any school, day care,  youth center, church or public park anywhere in the state.  If the sec offender committed a crime against a child, he couldn’t live next door to a child.  The bill […]

2-11-16 bill would relax sulfur dioxide regulations

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Legislature's budget committee has approved a bill that would relax Wisconsin's sulfur dioxide regulations. The Republican bill would eliminate requirements that major utilities submit annual plans for complying with sulfur dioxide emission requirements to the state.
