The Fond du Lac Elks Club has its charter back. Exhalted ruler Joe Leventhal says he was notified Thursday that the Elks Grand Lodge has rescinded its suspension of the Fond du Lac Lodge. “We provided them a full slate of officers they were looking for and a guaranteed number of members they were looking for so we were given our charter back,” Leventhal told WFDL news. The suspension was handed down last fall because the Fond du lac Lodge was struggling to be financially solvent at their location at Sheboygan and Portland Streets. Leventhal says as a result the Lodge will have to find a new permanent location. “The Free Masons have offered to lease us some space in their building to store some of our stuff and to have our meetings until the building (Elks Lodge) does sell at which point that money will come back to our organization and we will have the option to move to something smaller and more manageable.” The Fond du Lac Elks Lodge is the oldest in Wisconsin dating back to 1886.
